Christopher Hitchens: Man of 2011
What more could possibly be said about the late Christopher Hitchens that has not already been said?
We all know who he was; the passionate, articulate, and always self-assured political, social, and literary critic with a penchant for hammering out the objective truth about a seemingly endless myriad of subjects. During his long and varied career, he took on heavyweights ranging from the...
godlessscience asked: not to be all in your business or anything, but I would threaten your SIL to take the dog to counseling or else you'll report the attacks. If a dog attacks too many animals/people they will in-pound it
Seriously?
Their dog just had to be pulled off our other dog.

Will 2012 Be the Year of the Atheist?
“Coming out” now may be a clichéd term, but as the “We Are Atheism” project has shown, it hasn’t entirely lost its currency. The new organization encourages others to be open about their atheism, an act that is more than a confession; it holds the real risk of losing family and friends.
By affirming “it’s OK to be an atheist” and encouraging...
feurety asked: My German Shepard has had cuts like that on his nose (from my cat). They look bad but as long as you keep it clean, they should heal just fine. He's got scars but they're the same color as the rest of his nose. Hope you and your pup get to feeling better soon!
Anonymous asked: That's understandable. I wouldn't want anyone mutilating my dogs either, if I had some.
Anonymous asked: Enough of the dogs; back to the science ;) hahaha.
irejectyour-reality asked: Fun fact: Labs are always at the top of the list for highest number of bites every year in the US. Anyway, I think at this point I'd stop letting my dogs around this other dog. Dog aggression can be treated (by an actual behaviorist - not by some dumb dude on nationgal geographic..) but a dog that has bitten or attacked this often can NEVER be trustedaround other dogs
neotheist asked: I'm sorry to hear about another dog injury! No offense, not that you'll take any... but it takes pretty crappy care of a yellow lab to make it angry. I wouldn't be surprised if it simply didn't get enough exercise, that will turn the nicest dogs mean.
logicianmagician replied to your photo: This year’s injury. My poor sweet girl =(
What kind of dog messed with your baby?
A YELLOW FUCKING LAB. Indicative of problems much? Labs rarely have aggression issues.

oh geeze :( what’s wrong with the other dog???
The other dog has SERIOUS behavioral issues. She’s attacked my fiance’s dog twice (the dog was put in the doggy ER both times), went off on several dogs at the dog park, and now attacked my dog while my dog was on sedatives.
All three times the dogs...
Puppy Injury
For those that have been following me for over a year remember that last Xmas Eve my future sister in-law’s dog put my fiancé’s dog in the doggy ER.
Today, the same dog took a huge chunk of skin out of my puppy’s nose. =(
My poor baby.
murphysbride asked: You are one of my favorite (if not my very favorite) atheist blog on the tumblrs and I am very glad that I found you.
Anonymous asked: You are all the things I want to be
passionatecynic asked: You're the greatest thing since sliced bread. And sliced bread is pretty damn great. You're my sister from another mister, and I love you!
Anonymous asked: I never even thought about getting married in a museum. That idea is so awesome. Thank you!
Anonymous asked: Oh wow, you can get married in an art gallery??
nonplussedbyreligion asked: I love your blog and you as a person. When I first started on tumblr, you were one of the first 10 or so people to follow me. If and when I do have kids, you're the kind of teacher I want them to have. Happy New Year. ~ Kim
Anonymous asked: I have a question about getting married as an atheist. I really don't want to do it in a church, but I am having a hard time thinking of other places to get married that aren't outside. I have been to a bunch of outdoor weddings and I hate them. Any suggestions for an inside non-church wedding?

More Political Attacks on Science Education...
The past year was not a good one for creationists trying to force public school science teachers to water down the teaching of biological evolution.
But as this year comes to a close, it looks like legislators in New Hampshire want to be the first to attack Darwin in 2012.
Hearings for two bills are headed for the New Hampshire House Education Committee in February, according to the...

Battling Anew Over the Place of Religion in Public...
It has been nearly 50 years since the Supreme Court ruled that officially sponsored prayer in public schools violated the separation of church and state.
But in some corners of the country, especially in the rural South, open prayer and Christian symbols have never really disappeared from schools, with what legal advocates call brazen violations of the law coming to light many times each...

Science Curriculum Debate
Patty Kubetz is teaching her two children math. Kubetz homeschools her children and says she gives them a well-rounded education. Her husband Randy serves on the school board and Patty says she’s concerned about the education of the children in the public school system as well.
“This isn’t just about teaching my children. This is about a bigger community,” said Patty...

Tolerant Dad
My holiday weekend has been saved by my dad. I just got off a long phone conversation with him. Highlights?
Asking me if he would offend me by sending Xmas cards. (No, of course not Dad!)
Telling me that he’s tried to do research on the atheist community to help him understand me more.
Asking if there were other holidays I celebrate that he should know about.
Telling me he was...

My high school was about 80% Mormon, and I’d always notice the girls wear long sleeve shirts under tank tops/spaghetti strap/low cut/etc, and all these super gorgeous girls wearing one piece swinsuits when you’d think they’d be wearing bikinis. So weird!
Modesty to the point of absurdity!

Stepsister: I'm not allowed to say, "Merry Christmas," at work.

Stepsister: It's so stupid. I don't understand how people can be offended. I mean if you're offended, don't go to see Santa?
Me: ......

I had a really stressful weekend with my conservative, uber-religious, homophobic, willfully ignorant family.
