Have you ever 'suspected' a student is atheist? I just think it's weird the little signals people send off.

I know I have had at least one atheist student. He was very open about it. One day during SSR I noticed that he was reading the Bible. I cautiously and carefully asked why he was reading the Bible and he replied that he wanted to understand what he didn’t believe in. He is a really smart kid.

I’m quite sure that one of my students this year is either an atheist or will become one. She likes to talk to me a lot about the Big Bang, evolution (and the teaching of creationism in the classroom), and Stephen Hawking. She’s easily the most brilliant student I’ve ever taught. She writes at an advanced college level at the age of 12. Unfortunately, she is teased by her peers because of this. I’ve taken her aside and confided in her that I was a lot like her as a kid and that it gets better in college. She’s a very sweet kid and I admire her intelligence and desire to learn at such a young age.
