In one of my classes, if we were caught not saying the pledge the teacher would make us stand up front and sing a humiliating song. So yeah, can say I was definitely forced in high school.

Your teachers were participating in illegal behavior.  The Supreme Court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to compel students to recite the pledge or to punish them for not doing so.
